Weekend Planner 08/21 - 08/23/09

Sports - Lots of things going on with Houston professional sports teams this weekend.  The Houston Texans take on the New Orleans Saints on Saturday in a preseason game at Reliant Stadium.  The Houston Astros are taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks in a home stand Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The Houston Dynamo take on the Seattle Sounders this Sunday at Robertson Stadium.

Galveston Art Walk - For over twenty years, the Galveston Arts Center has produced ArtWalk on Saturday nights in Galveston's historic district.  Not a street festival, ArtWalk takes place in existing commercial galleries, non-profit arts spaces and what are called "other walls," restaurants and retail stores, for example. This year the Art Walk will feature an exhibition of the new Houston Its Worth It: Ike book that is set for release next week. Saturday.  6-9 p.m.

Fountains - Go take some new pictures of fountains and submit them to the Assignment: Houston photo pool!

India Fest - The India Culture Center is celebrating India's Indepence Day with a event at the George R Brown. The festival will include food, booths, performances, contests and an afternoon flag ceremony. Saturday.  11 a.m. - 9 p.m. $3

Pakistan Day Parade - Pakistan Independence Day will be commemorated with a parade in Downtown Houston Sunday evening.  The parade starts at 400 Rusk St. and will make it's way to Tranquility Park where there will be a musical concert.  Sunday.  6:00 p.m.  Free
