Assignment: Houston began on Flickr three years ago as a way to get people out into the city with their cameras. I have a great love for Houston and wanted to introduce people to places they may not have otherwise visited. I wanted to see what their take was on the city that I photograph every day. The group has been successful beyond my wildest dreams and I have to thank the wonderful members who make it a vibrant group even today.
I had another group dear to my heart: Houston Photobloggers. Photoblogging is a very important part of my life and running the Houston Photobloggers group has been an honor. I want to thank Brandon Stone of Photoblogs.org for all his advice and help throughout the years as well as the wonderful photobloggers on our rolls. I have watched as many of them documented important milestones in their lives (births, deaths, marriages, etc.) with their camera. I love this group dearly, but I have had to admit to myself that times change. Photoblogging, once a dominant medium, is now only one of the many ways to share photography on the web.
After much thought I have decided to create a new website. It could have taken on any name, and several were considered, but my heart truly lies with the goal of Assignment: Houston. The blog will bring over some of the content from Houston Photobloggers including links to photography articles and the weekend planner. Plans are in the works for meet-ups, photowalks and many more photos in the spotlight to inspire you to get out with your camera. Of course the Assignment: Houston Flickr group has new assignments every month to get you out and about. I'm not sure where this new adventure on the web will take me, but I am excited about the possibilities.
I hope you will add Assignment: Houston to your bookmarks and RSS readers and that you will join in discovering all that Houston has to offer photographers.
